Well….it’s nowhere near spring. And what is a butterfly doing at the north pole? Maybe it hitched a ride on Santa’s sleigh when he was coming back from South America.

As I composed this painting I was thinking about mysterious cats. They can sit so very still in the garden and blend in with the foliage. Almost like they had been painted into the landscape. So I painted the Gatekeeper into the garden.

shaman’s eye

The symbol in the upper right hand corner of the painting is a native American indian symbol called the Shaman’s Eye. The eye of God. The colors of this particular symbol which I painted suggest healing and protection.

best friends

Animals sometimes make friends with their deadliest enemies. I wonder why? I have two cattle dogs and a big black persian mix cat. As long as the cat doesn’t run the dogs leave him alone. My dog ‘Buddha’ actually nuzzles him with affection.

This is my blue and red merle cattledog named ‘Buddha.’  I found him sleeping on our deck in the snow next to my statue of the Buddha. I snapped a few photos and then painted this. My dog has a very gentle nature. He is also very smart and quite devious. He is my Buddha and much loved.
