dhyren

This post is for Hanneke especially. I wanted her to have a taste of the wolf. Dhyren is a wolf hybrid having all the wolfie behavior traits of a full wolf. In fact, his owner, Carolyn, says that there is almost no dog in him. It has been my pleasure watching him grow. He has a wonderful, knowledgeable and patient owner who took the time to understand wolf behavior and raise Dhyren to fit into human/dog society. There is also a picture of Montana. She is out of the same parents, but a litter one year behind Dhyren. She has had the same good fortune to have been chosen by a wonderful owner. Unfortunately, wolf hybrids are not usually this lucky and do not grow to be wonderful adults. Most people just love the idea of owning a wolf and have no idea what the responsibility will be.

DHYREN a wee pup...2-3 months

DHYREN about 6 months

DHYREN teenage wolf in training

DHYREN winter 2011 growing up and very wolfie. Wouldn't want to meet a creature that looks like this in a dark alley. He is very sweet.

DHYREN winter 2011 As a pup his coat was so soft. It is now very corse. And the markings have changed.

DYHREN

MONTANA she was about one year and very wary of people. She is very calm now....a few years later.

trickster

Coyotes are often called ‘tricksters.’ The name refers to their mythical, magical qualities.  Coyotes are symbolically regarded as teachers. They are cunning.  Where I live coyotes roam at will in packs. Marvelous animals. And, of course, man is trying to ‘get rid’ of them as they invade populated areas. But not on my mountain. We love our coyotes. They are very large as coyotes go. We also don’t let our dogs wander though because they may not survive coyote pack encounters. My large cattle dog, Buddha, has a coyote girlfriend. They bark and sniff at each other through the chain link fence. Coyotes and dogs do mate. Love them or kill them I guess.

Only elephants know this forest. Calla Lilies grow as large as giant redwood trees. There are magic pools in which to bathe and always green plants to eat. An elephant paradise.

We are having a heat wave. I dare not complain because this is the first horrible heat that we have had all summer. But, nevertheless, I’m hot. So I      painted a pond to cool off.

Remover of Obstacles. Hindu elephant deity who, in his mystical form of a man with the head of an elephant, rides a mouse as a vehicle.

I was inspired during my walk this morning at the lake to give testimony to our resident Heron. They are majestic water birds. I have seen them in many places. The most unusual I think was at Standford University. I was walking down the sidewalk and there poised on the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street stood a Great Blue. He was intent upon catching something as it ascended from a hold in the earth. Not a muscle was moved. I nearly tripped over him and, even so, he stayed put and remained in pursuit of dinner.
