10,000 years ago the earth was all ice and snow. Everything was white. Then Raven the creator created the Green. Raven did not want to forget the misery of the great ice age so he asked Black Bear, keeper of dreams and memory, to help create a reminder of the long white time. Raven told bear that he could live in peace and safety forever if he would agree to let one out of every ten Black Bears turn white. To this day the white bears…spirit bears….. still roam in the Great Bear Rain Forest of the Pacific Northwest.

The barn owl is different than other owls with its white heart shaped face and large black eyes. With this owl totem there is a strong connection to be made between heart and mind. And that is something that we all must learn. It is both a thing of beauty and haunting at the same time. To me they seem rather human and a bit ghost like as they glide silently above the trees.

A sleeping cat is a wonder to behold. Always in another universe with one ear cocked toward intruders. Escape.  But you would never know from the total relaxed position.

Animals sometimes make friends with their deadliest enemies. I wonder why? I have two cattle dogs and a big black persian mix cat. As long as the cat doesn’t run the dogs leave him alone. My dog ‘Buddha’ actually nuzzles him with affection.

The true spirit of the horse is freedom. Perhaps if you call upon horse he will set your spirit free. San Simeon means a state of euphoria. Be free…completely in the moment San Simeon.

DECK GARDEN 7:2014 instagram,wordpressDSC02082

This is the latest photo of my deck garden’s progress. Growing are zucchini, cherry tomatoes, Armenian cucumbers, basil (lots…cause I love it), mint, lavender, marjoram, sage, rosemary, chives. I love having all the fresh herbs in the summer. You can make some easy and yummy food with beautiful herbs. I am excited to harvest my first vegetable and it looks like zucchini will win the race to my stomach.
