He is a wolf hybrid to whom I say hello to every morning when I walk. This is really his name. The owner gave me the history a few days ago. He and his mate are both rescues. People love the idea of wolf hybrids….it’s a big gun thing. But then they don’t know what to do with them. So the hybrids end up being dumped at the rescue. Chris said that they are both very gentle. Lightfoot is very large….probably wolf with malamute. He sometimes howls but it is his mate that is the noisy one.

I’m really jonesing for a barn owl sighting. On my early morning walk I was accompanied by a raucous raven. Joining the cacophony were two wolf hybrids unwillingly contained behind a very tall chain link fence. They don’t bark. Just kinda make a sound somewhere between a howl and a growl gone wrong. I collected a number of discarded blue jay flight feathers. I am assuming that they were donated due to an encounter with a predator. That’s nature. I am so very grateful to be here. Oh…and, thankfully, no site of Donald’s bear.

I’m reading a collection of story tales about an owl kingdom called ‘The Guardians of Ga’Hoole.’ One of the owl leading characters is a barn owl named Soren. I really don’t need much inspiration to paint a barn owl. I think that they look quite human with their black eyes and all. I’m picking up all sorts of owl information from the book. Did you know that barn owls have special flight feathers which allow them to fly noiselessly?

“Koko” is a great gray owl. The name is from the Blackfoot tribe and means ‘night.’ Owls are the guardians of the night and connected to the moon and the feminine. Magical creatures….they are described by many myths, lore and beliefs.

original pencil drawing 8 x 10

I was taking a tour through my portfolios and came across my pencil renderings of totem animals. It is so different to finish a pencil drawing as compared to the brief sketches that I do for my watercolors.

I painted this for a 14 year old Navaho girl. It is for her protection and her power. She sees auras and is very disturbed by this. She is just amazing. Beauty beyond any words. You can see into the soul of the universe when you look at her eyes. She has no idea. I loved her the moment I saw her. My blessings for her well being are woven into the art.

This is a protection totem. A magical animal. I’m working on a larger painting for the client’s protection and I painted this as a trial run. There are other animals in the painting too, but I have a bit of trouble painting black things. To my satisfaction that is. So in the interests of keeping the integrity of the larger painting I thought a little practice would do me fine.

She is resting on her batik sarong. Perhaps waiting for a dish of ocean perch for kitties. She is one of those pampered pussies.

Puff is actually a magic dragon disguised as a well mannered house cat.
