A harvest mouse.  So tiny….the size of a dandelion going to seed. They are found in Europe and Great Britain and they are endangered.

‘Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you…..all of the expectations all of the beliefs….and becoming who you are.”

When you run after your thoughts, you are like a dog chasing a stick: every time a stick is thrown, you run after it. Instead, be like a lion who, rather than chasing after the stick, turns to face the thrower. One only throws a stick at a lion once.…………Milarepa

“Nineteen generations ago the beautiful spirit we now refer to as White Buffalo Calf Woman brought the Sacred C’anupa (Sacred Pipe) to our People. She taught the People the Seven Sacred Rites and how to walk on Mother Earth in a sacred manner. Pte-san win-yan. As she left, she turned into a young beautiful white buffalo and then she walked over the hill and out of sight. This is where she received her name, White Buffalo Calf Woman. She gifted us with the Seven Sacred Rites that still sustain our People today. The person who smokes the sacred pipe achieves union with all Beings. By smoking this C’anupa, you will make direct personal contact with the Great Mystery. . . Following the Way of this Sacred C’anupa, you will walk in a sacred way upon the earth, for the Earth is your grandmother and your mother and she is sacred. . .″

— Chief Arvol Looking Horse

The story is also a prophecy. White Buffalo Calf Woman told the people that she would return in the form of a white buffalo calf and that it would be both a blessing and a warning. When the white animal shows its sacred color there will be great changes upon the earth. Arvol and many others interpret those changes to mean the current ecological crises taking place. If humanity continues to live without harmony with the earth it will be cursed, but if spiritual unity and harmony with the earth is achieved humanity will be blessed.

If you want to awaken

all of humanity,

then awaken all of yourself.

If you want to eliminate

the suffering in the world, then

eliminate all that is dark

and negative in yourself.

truly, the greatest gift

you have to

give is that of your

own self-transformation.

Raven is a bird surrounded by ancient lore…..much of which has flavored perception of ravens today. The raven is a clever, mysterious and most intelligent bird. Actually I am beguiled by any creature who crosses my path and raven is no exception. This one is a Druid bird casting the runes and holding the rune Dagaz. This is the rune of transformation. Shaped like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. The rune of awakening, awareness representing a paradigm shift which is now occurring.

‘Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth’

…….Henry David Thoreau

I recently read that studies of brain activity in people after three days of being in nature revealed lower levels of theta activity. This suggesting that their brains had rested. I used to live on a mountain at 5000′ and when I drove up the mountain from the flat land below I noticed a significant change in my sense of well being after the 3000′ mark. I was not alone. My friends living on the mountain also experienced the same and we all were always reluctant to descend from our crow’s nest home. Visitors who came for a weekend were so different…..not relaxed. Their road rage came with them whereas those of us living there full time were relaxed…..at peace. So….I am a believer in the healing ways of nature.

O’ Great Spirit

help me always

to speak the truth quietly,

to listen with an open mind

when others speak,

and to remember the peace

that may be found in silence.

…..Cherokee Prayer

One day when I was living on the mountain a family of raccoons visited my cyclone fenced yard. They didn’t seem to be aware of my two dogs until the dogs chased them. The raccoons then scurried up the trees. And there they stayed throughout the night even though I kept my dogs inside the house. It was quite a sight….6 very large raccoons draped from tree limbs. Sometime before dawn they exited. Nice visit for me but not the raccoons.
