I think ‘Petey’ has flown from his home cage out into the world. He is sitting on a street sign wondering just what to make of the wild blue yonder.

I painted this quite awhile back and found ‘Petey’ (formerly known as ‘Prince Charles’) lurking in the recesses of my art stuff.  So, I renamed him and have relisted the aceo. Interesting to see how the style of this one is quite different than today’s paintings.

I rarely paint tropical birds. This one is a commission. I had a housecleaning client who had a solarium where he kept some very large parrots in some very large cages with their very large doors open. The birds hated me. I don’t think it was personal, but rather because I carried a hugh feather duster in my belt. One of them used to hide in closets and spring out at me. I had similar experiences with other parrots on my client list. I was bitten and attacked a number of times. To this day I give them a wide berth but I understand that their owners love them.

Prince Charles is perched on the street sign in front of our house. Well….he isn’t really there, but the sign is. My daughter-in-law has a parrot. “Schmutz” doesn’t like anyone but Kathy. He has “buffaloed” two cats and 2 dogs in the house. Birds are quite formidable.
