It’s the raven decorating his nest with stolen baubles. They can’t resist bringing home things that catch their eye. And what more glittery than a Christmas ornament and some pretty ribbon. My…… won’t his home be spiffy for the holidays.

Mr. Wiggles is hoping that there will be  little mouse hopping out from beneath the Christmas tree. And he is so still that he just might catch a mouse. Oh Joy….a purrfect Christmas.

She is resting on her batik sarong. Perhaps waiting for a dish of ocean perch for kitties. She is one of those pampered pussies.

Crows are sentinels of the forest. They will call out an alert  warning of the presence of intruders or predators. And not just for their fellow crows, but also other species. Very smart.

Puff is actually a magic dragon disguised as a well mannered house cat.

Cats large or small share the predatory instinct. This one calls the jungle home, but only its size distinguishes it from its smaller domestic cat cousin. Fierce hunter.

Ever wish that you could touch a wild animal. I don’t mean one in captivity, but a really wild one. It’s next to impossible because you need the consent of the wild thing. They have fear just like we do. I was visiting Fire Island off Long Island and I touched a wild deer that walked up to me. Now I don’t know if this really counts because those deer are protected on the island and have learned not to fear humans. It was still a rush for me.

A decidedly pensive cat. Born in a pumpkin patch on the eve of Samhain. She is a light into the darkening season.

A few days ago we experienced a very fierce rain that lasted for a day. On the day before the storm I was walking with my dogs at the lake. Foggy mists were floating and moving over the lake and the surrounding mountains. Very beautiful. Very still. So quiet. As I stood on a hill by the water, breathing in the lake four great blue herons flew out of the mists. They circled and swooped for quite a long time…… never touching down. They looked like prehistoric birds in their flight. It was very mystical.
