Avatar is a magical stallion. A pegasus given to the brave warrior Youngblood. The gift was from Indra…king of heaven….in the name of Sachi his wife. She had long admired the many virtues of Youngblood and asked Indra to gift the pegasus who would carry him into battle and thus Youngblood would sustain no mortal wounds. On this very day he rides his stallion Avatar across the heavens.

In the Hopi tongue ‘kachina’ means sacred dancer. Beautiful name for this war horse. He is fast, smart and brave. The red hand print signifies that he has knocked down an enemy. This symbol is usually found on the chest, but, since the other end is presented in this painting, I took artist’s license and moved it.

I named this pony ‘papoose’ because of his small size. But I gave him the battle marking of fire arrow. Fire arrows cause trouble for the enemy thereby adding strength to the warrior. Great things often come in small packages.

The Pat Hand Print was always reserved exclusively for the horse who had brought his master back home from a dangerous mission unharmed. The ‘eye of god’ is included in my hand print. Extra insurance?
