The gaze of a wolf reaches into our soul.
‘We reached the old wolf in time to watch the fierce green fire dying in her eyes. There was something new to me in those eyes. Something known only to her and the mountains. I was young then, and full of trigger-itch. I thought that because fewer wolves and more deer would mean that no wolves would be a hunter’s paradise. But after seeing the green fire die, I sensed that neither the wolf nor the mountain agreed with such a view.’…… Aldo Leopold
  1. Beautiful painting, the eyes grab the spirit and the quote, though true, makes the soul cry.

    • I thought the narrative summed up quite nicely how the unconscious see the wolf or any other wild thing. They do not see the soul and think the beautiful beast is without a soul so it makes it OK to slaughter it. Native people see the entirety of the relationship and in the great scheme killing an animal for use is part of nature.

  2. So sad. Heartbreaking story. Beautiful wolf.
