Raven is said to be the creator of the world in Native American lore. Raven steals the sun and the moon from their caretakers, flies through the smoke hole in the longhouse and brings light to the world. And when he flew through the smoke hole, he became black.
The white raven is very rare and is seen on the same islands in British Columbia as is the kermode or spirit bear.

  1. gorgeous! simply gorgeous

  2. White Raven is very special. Lovely, lovely face, Gretchen. It is not surprising that they share Spirit Bear’s realm.

I featured this beautiful work in my blog About Raven, along the previously featured Odin. I cannot reblog because it is on Blogger, but I embedded a direct link to your blog in the image.

  3. he’s a beauty, gretchen. i especially love his blue eye. it would truly be magical to see one.

    • Yes. I also would love to see one. Yesterday I sat beneath a tree in which a peregrine falcon was perched. We shared the space for a long time. It’s these moments that make life magical.

  4. You must know how much I love this. It’s so beautiful. You are amazing and I never tire of looking at your magical work. Really. Do you have any idea of how truly talented you are?

    • I started painting animals 5 years ago and just became intrigued with their rendering. I have a sense of being inside them and I love that feeling and that sight. Thank you for your many sweet comments, Gigi. Love G
