This is ‘Dhyren’ whom I have painted since he was a pup. He is a full grown wolf and very beautiful. So smart. He is moving to Oregon with his family. Since they are not taking appliances with them, I have traded the portrait for Carolyn’s clothes dryer.

  1. Beautiful and lively painting. Gretchen, I’m sorry to read both a human and a not human friend are moving. Hugs,
    Han.

  2. Thank you. They will be in a better place.

  3. I see the wisdom in his eyes…his strength and power.
We spent the holidays down at Gulf Shores, Alabama. A family of foxes were resident and we saw them frequently. They would go up onto the high decks and watch for prey. Very smart and very beautiful.

  4. His coat color went through transitions? …or is he a different color summer and winter, Gretchen? In the teenage one he looks so silvery. Beautiful portrait and beautiful wolf.

    • The transitions occurred with age. His body also changed a lot. It has been such a trip to watch his growth. He now has the most amazing fur. It is wiry feeling with black tips and silvery. I mostly wanted to capture his impish gaze. His look is penetrating. I think he reads minds.

  5. Gretchen, just love the paintings you do of my little “weed” they always are so gorgeous, and I’m not saying that just cause I’m a proud mom. Can’t wait to send you pictures of him in the new place, lots of snow, and plenty of ground to run.
