The white bear’s name is from the Komi language. He is waiting on the ice for a seal to appear from it’s breathing hole. It has been said that when the polar bear hunts for prey he covers his muzzle which is black.

  1. Clever bear. It makes him look like he’s deep within his thoughts. Beautiful painting Gretchen.

  2. Thanks. I picture him with one elbow on the ice just waiting…poised…ready to grab that seal. My sympathys to his dinner date.

  3. I love the paw included with the portrait. Gretchen. This pulls me in more than anything else.

  4. I love polar bear giant paws with those hugh black claws. Actually, I am intrigued with all animal paws and like to include them in the portraits. Thanks for commenting.
