Great Blue Herons wade silently in the shallows of a body of water…waiting for a catch. Then suddenly, quickly and as impressively as their silence they strike and pull up a fish. I am always so delighted to see this action or even to watch one of them frozen when waiting for prey to swim their way.

  1. I like the feeling of everything being quiet around this heron. But the heron itself is so alive. Lovely painting.

  2. I have to comment on this. Love it, Gretchen. I have longed to do a painting of a blue heron but have held back. A little fear, I guess, that I won’t create it like I want. This has character plus!
