I have always loved barn owls. There is some thing very human about their faces. In Beatrix Potter’s ‘The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin’ an owl played an important part…’Old Brown.’ As a child I was both afraid of the owl in this story and in awe of it. In my memory this was a barn owl. But as I look at the story art it seems like it must have been another type of owl. I haven’t yet identified it.

Will this wolf survive the never ending attempts by humankind to eradicate the species?

The Raven is a bird surrounded by myth and magic. It is said to be a messenger of the spirit world both honored and feared. They can teach you the magic of life.

Owls hunt at night and sleep during the day. This one has a full tummy and is resting in some dense scrub. They are always alert, though, even while resting and digesting.

Brother Bear. A black bear. They are not necessarily black but also shades of brown. Much good luck to wear their totem. The symbol of the sun..in the background… is very important to hunters. They never hunted in the rain, so sun was very important. We have a lot of black bears here on my mountain. They wander around at will and they are formidable. Not big like grizzlies, but not small either. Whatever they want…they can have.

In the Hopi tongue ‘kachina’ means sacred dancer. Beautiful name for this war horse. He is fast, smart and brave. The red hand print signifies that he has knocked down an enemy. This symbol is usually found on the chest, but, since the other end is presented in this painting, I took artist’s license and moved it.

Minerva was a Roman goddess of wisdom and peace. I named the goat so because she looks sublimely peaceful. And only wisdom from within grants peace.

The mute swan is so lovely. I always think of the lotus flower when I paint a mute swan. Formidable fighter by the way…..deceptive outside package.

This looks like a bountiful meal. Fat fish but it is a magic fish. Can it be caught? And what will happen to pussy if she ate it. You can never be sure about magic.

Pandora lives in the storm galaxy trillions of light years away. Planets are shaped like hearts here and the skies are golden. All the kitties here are fed fresh fishes each day. Her message was picked up here on earth when she was teletransporting  about the abundance where she lives. Cats, of course rule in this galaxy.
