I was inspired during my walk this morning at the lake to give testimony to our resident Heron. They are majestic water birds. I have seen them in many places. The most unusual I think was at Standford University. I was walking down the sidewalk and there poised on the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street stood a Great Blue. He was intent upon catching something as it ascended from a hold in the earth. Not a muscle was moved. I nearly tripped over him and, even so, he stayed put and remained in pursuit of dinner.

  1. I do respect its concentration. Like cats waiting hours for a mouse.
The combination of colours is beautiful.

    • I love when this color show happens in a painting. It’s like magic and that’s why I love working with water. Thanks. ♥ gretchen

  2. I am going to paint a heron someday. I think they are lovely birds and everytime I sit down to do one, I turn away thinking I could never paint them as graceful as I see them. Yours is gorgeous and full of lovely color, Gretchen. Love it.

    • Thanks, Leslie. Just saw my heron this morning. He looked like a stealth bomber gliding across the lake surface. ♥ gretchen
