I stood beneath a very tall pine in the forest and watched a bald eagle just like this one. He was about 30 feet above perched on a limb and dining on his catch. From the feathers floating down I presume that the special menu of the day was wild fowl.

  1. Truly,it is beautiful Gretchen.Wild creatures inspiring painters.
I like its characteristic proud look and its misleading name “bald eagle”, the fantastic white feathered head, contrasting the well-known meaning of bald.
I,especially, like the artistic expression of the left side pattern with the geometrical touches.

    • I wish you had been there. I felt very feral watching the eagle rip off pieces of flesh with his beak. The reason that I noticed him way up on the limb was because of a group of ravens that were making a racket. They were like hyenas waiting for the spoils from a lion’s kill. The eyes in these birds are very intense. Did you know that they actual kill wolves on the Steppes. Fierce creatures. This is a much earlier eagle that I posted. https://gretchendelrio.wordpress.com/2010/04/22/hunting-eagle/ Gretchen
